Professor A. Appadorai was the doyen of scholars in international affairs and areas studies. He was Secretary-General of the Indian Council of World Affairs (1943-65); Founder-Director of the Indian School of International Studies (1955-64) Jawaharlal Nehru University and a National Research Professor of Political Science.
