About the Authors

Dr Harini A. M.D. (Ayu), currently working as Associate professor in department of Dravyaguna, SDM College of Ayurveda & Hospital, Hassan, Karnataka, has obtained her post graduate degree from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka (RGUHS). Author has 17 years of experience in the field of teaching and achieved best teacher award in the year 2014 from the college. Author has profound knowledge and very good interpretation skills made her to be recognized as best academician. The three volumes of the first edition of Text Book of Dravyaguna as per NCIM syllabus is appreciated and accepted throughout India. Author has given expert lectures in various platforms and won many awards.

Dr Prakash L Hegde, MD (Ayu), PhD (Ayu), currently is working as Professor and Head, Department of Dravyaguna, SDM College of Ayurveda & Hospital, Hassan, Karnataka. Author is currently serving as Chair person of prestigious Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homeopathy (PCIM&H), New Delhi. Author has obtained his Post Graduate Degree from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka (RGUHS) and PhD from National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) Jaipur, Jodhpur University. Author is a gold medalist from University of Mysore, and has profound theoretical and practical knowledge in Dravyaguna. Has 20 years of teaching experience and awarded as best teacher from the college in the year 2012 & 2021. The three volumes of the first edition of Text Book of Dravyaguna, written by the author are well accepted throughout India. Keeping in line with the scope of Dravyaguna, an attempthas been made through this practical text to kindle its various facets and motivate the young researcher to analyse and evolve.

The book is designed as per the NCISM syllabus for practical work and has tried to incorporate the detailed method for conduction of the experiment and also in accordance with the reference record pattern suggested by the commission.

The experiments of the parameters for assessment of Panchabhautika Dravya and Gurvadiguna are explained with principle and method.

The macroscopic features of different herbs have been elaborated with their substitutes, adulterants, actions and indications. An attempt has been made to make it visually comprehensible with photographs. Identification and differentiation of adulterants from genuine herbs by microscopic evaluation have been discussed with diagrams.

Botanical description of various parts of the plant with basic glossary will help students to revise the terminologies and help identify them in the field. Family key features and morphology of important members will prove handy during field visits and study of other medicinal plants. A concise table at the end of the family features give the main uses of some common medicinal plants.
