The Prakrit Grammar of Hemacandra, being the eighth adhyaya of his Siddha-Hema-Sabdanusasana was first published in the Bombay Sanskrit Series No. LX as an Appendix to the edition of Hemacandra's Kumarapalacarita, a Dvyasraya Kavya in Prakrit, and was edited by the late S. P. Pandit in 1900. A revised edition of that work, edited by me, was published in 1936, when some notes and an index of Prakrit words was added to the appendix (Hemacandra's Prakrit Grammar) and a few copies were separately printed to meet the growing demand of the public for this work. The copies of this separate print are now exhausted, and there is keen demand for copies, due to the impetus which the Studies of Modern Indian Languages received in recent years in the Indian, universities. The present work is only a reprint of the above Appendix.
In the critical notes at the foot of the page of the Prakrit Grammar, the following signs represent earlier printed edition and manuscripts used for the first edition, viz.,
P. R. Pischel's Edition, 1877. A. A Ms. From Avanti, dated Sanrvat 1612, i. E., 1556 A. D. B. A Ms. From Patan containing the text of Kumarapala- carita and Prakrit Grammar, dated Sanrvat 1570, i. E., 1514 A. D.
