The school as an institution exists to guide children in the development of skills, subject matter, attitudes and behaviour patterns essential for effective living in a particular society. The teacher, therefore, has two major tasks: to help children learn as efficiently as possible the subject-matter being studied and to help them acquire those desirable personal and social behaviour patterns. Where religious education is part of the curriculum, the teacher's function is to nurture the child in the proper relationship to God. Despite numerous studies this problem is still unresolved.
