Tanjore Sarasvati Mahal Series No.- 208
The Golden age of Literary renaissance during Maratha rule in Tanjore can be ascribed to King Shahaji who ruled ,Thanjavur from 1684 to 1710. He was a great patronizer of poets in. Sanskrit, Tamil, Marathi and Telugu. For, we may quote the instance of giving a village as a gift to the Sanskrit' poets on the basis "Sarvamanya " (Tax Free) and renamed the village Thiruvisainallur as Shahajirajapuram. Such is his greatness and interest in enriching the literary activities. He was eulogized by many poets and in most of their creations they have portrayed Shahaji as a hero. One such drama written in Marathi language is Rajakanya Parinaya written by Triyambakajyotirvidha. It is an erotic drama based on Music and dance. This has been edited by our Library Marathi Pandit Sri T. R. Bhima Rao, with a lucid Tamil and Marathi introduction. He has also given the Tamil rendering of the drama in a nutshell. He deserves our appreciation for his services. All the staff members of the Library who involved themselves in the publication work also share this appreciation.
