About the Book This Festschrift "Recent Trends in Conservation of Art Heritage" is a humble dedication of the contributors to Dr. O.P Agrawal for his outstanding work in the field of conservation of art heritage There is an increasing awareness in the world today of the need for conservation every where, and it is but natural that attention would focus on the conservation and preservation of art heritage that mankind has created and inherited over the ages.

At present hardly any literature is available in a composite form on conservation of art heritage on the techniques of the world adopted in countries, situated in different climatic zones. This lacuna would be filled by the papers presented here, covering different branches of conservation science, including different types of materials like stone, paintings, paper, etc. The papers presented in this volume are in the form of review articles and case studies. The book, the only one of its type, should prove to be of immense interest to art lovers, conservationstudents and conservationists curators of museums all over the world. This volume contains 23 papers and 5 tributes. It has about 350 pages of text and is illustrated with figures and plates.

About the Author Dr. Shashi Dhawan is M.Sc. Botany, Ph.Din Plant Pathology and Mycology, and holder of Diploma in French. She is engaged in the field of conservation science since July 1981 when she joined the National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property, Lucknow. At present she is a Senior Scientific officer, Head and Founder of the Biodeterioration Division of NRLC. She has published a number of research papers, review articles in International and National journals and books. She was a member of the Editorial Board of the Conservation of Cultural Property in India. Dr. Dhawan is the General Secretary of the Committee formed to organise the International Conferences on Biodeter ioration of Cultural Property and a member of several professional organizations. She is widely traveled and has visited various conservation laboratories, Universities, Museums and Conservation Institutes of various countries. She is a recognized authority in an important aspect of conservation, namely biodeterioration of cultural heritage.

Preface This Festschrift 'Recent Trends in Conservation of ArtHeritage' is a humble dedication of the contributors to Dr. O.P.Agrawal for his outstanding work in the field of Conservation of Cultural Property. Originally it was intended to bring out the Volume in 1992-93 but due to unforeseen circumstances, it could not be accomplished. I am extreemly sorry for this inadvertent delay and tender my apologies to all the contributors of this publication.
