Tamil language, one of the ancient languages of the world, holds a long history of grammar and literature, even before Tolkappiyar. With such a classical. status, Tamil writings were carried out in Palm-leaf manuscripts by Tamil scholars till the mid - twentieth century. The Institute of Asian Studies has been greatly interested to bring out the hidden cultural treasures embedded in Palm-leaf manuscripts. It has also edited and published more than twenty such literary pieces with English translations. And now, Tinkalur Arulmalai Nonti Natakam also falls into this catagory. I acknowledge my indebtedness to the Director of the Institute of Asian Studies, Dr. G. John Samuel but for whose encouragement this publication would not have seen the light of day. I thank Mr. M.
