Is reincarnation true? Is there any continuity of consciousness even after the death of a being? What do the world religions say about reincarnation? What are the opinions of the wise about this concept? What does modern science say about reincarnation? These are the common questions that would appear in the mind of any thoughtful person. This book is an attempt to look at reincarnation in the light of Jyotisha, the Hindu science of astrology.

Jyotisha, as a Vedanga, is not meant for mere fortune telling but for guiding mankind in their evolution towards perfection and final emancipation. Through this book the author shares the results and insights of his research on reincarnation using Naadi Jyotisha principles and actual case studies.

This book is an attempt to touch the intangible. This is a pioneering and 'one of its kind' of work in the sphere of combining the wisdom of Jyotisha with the findings of modern research on reincarnation, and in attempting to demonstrate the power of Jyotisha in revealing the past and future lives of people.

Dr. K. Guru Rajesh has been into the field of astrology since his teens. He contributed many articles on the subject to journals and magazines. He is also an author of many books on astrology that received critical acclaim. He believes in a judicial mixing of tradition and research as the way for the progress of the science.

A doctorate holder in Geology by qualification, Dr. Rajesh is also an accomplished artist and trained musician in Carnatic classical music. His other interests include classical poetry in Telugu and Sanskrit.

Though each one of us might have undergone innumerable incarnations, not all of us have any kind of memories about them, even of the previous incarnation. Only few of us, as discussed in the CORT cases in this book, would have some memories during their childhood which would also fade away very quickly within a few years. Some of us may know about our previous lives after consulting Naadi/Bhrigu Samhita readings in India or through Past Life Regression (PLR) sessions during hypnosis. Besides these, sincere practitioners of Yoga would get an inkling about their previous lives as indicated in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali अपरिग्रहस्थैर्ये जन्मकथंतासंबोधः ||२.३९|| meaning, when a Yogi becomes established in Aparigraha (not receiving anything from others), he gains knowledge about his evolution through various incarnations past, present and future lives.

This book is an effort to touch the intangible. It is the fruit of my efforts spanning over a few years and had demanded considerable time and energy. Notwithstanding the inherent limitations of the subject and my capabilities, this is a sincere attempt to expand the scope of Jyotisha beyond its application to one life time by attempting to understand the past and future lives of people.

In the process of my study, I have referred many books, research papers, articles and websites to collect the case studies.

In the religions of the east, particularly in Hinduism, the concept of reincarnation is not a mere belief but the very foundation of the religious system unlike the Abrahamic religions which believe in a single life with a permanent end and final resurrection of the dead on a judgemental day. The entire edifice of Hinduism, the Sanatana Dharma, is built on the concept of reincarnation and the theory of Karma (Siddhanta). Through the teachings of Vedas, Upanishads, Vedangas, Puranas, Ithihasas (Ramayana and Mahabharata) and so on, Hinduism proposes that the individual soul will take innumerable births in this manifest world (Samsara) and ultimately attains the deliverance (Moksha, Mukti, Nirvana) from the cycle of births and deaths. The Hindu philosophy (Vedanta) satisfactorily addresses every possible question that can arise in the inquisitive human mind about the nature of existence and creation. Writing anything about this subject is beyond the scope of the present book.

In accordance with the principles of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and other eastern religions, people of most of the countries in Asia like India, Burma, Sri Lanka, Japan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and so on have a deep and entrenched belief in the concept of reincarnation.

Even in the countries where there is dominance of the Semitic religions in contemporary times, some people retained their pre- Semitic beliefs in the concept of rebirth. The Alevis (a Shiite branch of Islam) in Turkey, the Druses of Lebanon (who believe that reincarnation of the next life occurs immediately after the death in the previous life), the Tlingit, Haida, Tsimshian and Gitksan people of Alaska and British Columbia in Canada, and the Igbos of Nigeria are such people who continue to believe in reincarnation even after accepting the Abrahamic religions.

Jyotisha, or Hindu Astrology, is a Vedanga (one among the six limbs of the Vedas forming the 'eyes' of the Veda Purusha). The term 'Vedanga' greatly expands the scope of Jyotisha proving its all- encompassing nature.
