Swami Vivekananda stands as a source of strength and motivation for millions of people all over the world, each deriving inspiration from him in his or her own way. Born on 12 January 1863 in Kolkata, Swami Vivekananda has been widely celebrated as a youth icon, social rejuvenator, nation-builder and world-prophet. But few, however, realize that Swamiji was primarily a spiritual personality - a yogi par excellence, a monk of sterling renunciation, and a spiritual guru of the highest order.
A booklet Dinam Or Veeramozhi (in Tamil) containing the datewise compilation of selected teachings of Swami Vivekananda culled from the Tamil version of the Complete Works was published by our Math in January 2012. Sri Maniam Selvan, Sri Padmavasan, Sri Ravi and Sri Shivaprasad had designed the cover page, sketches and layout. In January 2014, Ramakrishna Math, Hyderabad, published datewise compilation of Swamiji's teachings (in English) relevant to the modern youth.
Bearing in mind that innumerable books and booklets containing the compilation of Swamiji's teachings, especially on personal, social and national themes, have been published at different points of time, and to avoid any duplication, we have in this booklet attempted a datewise compilation of some of Swamiji's less known yet inspiring and instructive religious and spiritual teachings which sincere spiritual aspirants must imbibe or strive for. We have, however, retained to a large extent the design and layout of the Tamil booklet.
We are grateful to Smt. Latha Balasubramaniam for helping us in the proofreading these quotations. We pray to Swamiji to bless her and all others who have contributed to the preparation of this booklet. We hope the quotes in this booklet will rouse the reader every dawn to draw inspiration from Swamiji and struggle for purity, fearlessness and freedom.
