During a period of intense inward reflection, Swami Kriyananda discovered Paramhansa Yogananda’s Autobiography of a Yogi in 1948. He accepted him as a monastic disciple at the age of twenty-two. He spent nearly four years living closely with the great Indian master until his passing in 1952. Yogananda appointed him the head of the monastery, authorized him to give initiation into kriya Yoga, and entrusted him with life-long missions of writing, editing, establishing spiritual communities, and spreading the Master’s teachings the world over. He has established and directs Ananda Dwapara Monastery in Gurgaon, a suburb of New Delhi.
