Many of Swami Vivekananda's deep and significant thoughts are scattered throughout his numerous letters. For the convenience of those who are treading in the footsteps of the Swamiji we are bringing these together in this small volume, SALVATION AND SERVICE SO that it might serve as a vade mecum for their spiritual guidance and progress.

Many of these noble and inspiring thoughts of this great prophet and patriot-saint of Modern India have been of invaluable help to workers in the social, political, and other fields in India in the past, as acknowledged by many an eminent Indian leader, for the Swamiji has primarily laid stress on the development of character; and it is obvious that without the development of a strong and pure character no one can do any lasting good to the world. So this small book is placed before all public workers in the East and the West to guide and encourage them in their work.
