Sankhya school of Philosophy is the oldest school among the Indian Schools of Philosophy. Sage Kapila is stated to be the founder of this school. However, no work of Kapila is available. Two works viz. Sankhyasutra and Sastitantra are reported to have been his works; but both these are not available. Sankhya philosophy is developed in three stages viz. (i) epic Sankhya (ii) classical Sankhya (iii) Post-classical Sankhya. Among these Sankhyakarika of Ishvara Krishna belongs to classical stage. In this work in 72 verses Sankhya philosophy is described. There are about 6 commentaries on Sankhyatattva Kaumudi of Vacaspati Misra is a standard commentary. In this volume Sankhyakari with this commentary is published. A detailed introduction in English and English and Kannada translations of Karikas are added. In the appendix two research papers on Sankhva Philosophy and a newly discovered commentary Sankhya taru vasanta are published.
It is hoped that this volume will be useful to the research students and scholars.
