Way back in 1971, I had delivered a series of three lectures at the Birla Academy Auditorium, Calcutta. The topics for the three days were:
(i) What is Life?
(ii) Mental harmony: the True Spiritual Attainment; and
(iii) Secret of Self-Realization.
These three cover the entire range of Vedantic thoughts and findings. They also give a full description of the practical sadhana, which the seeker has to undertake and pursue for getting a direct realization of what he seeks. Due to their immense usefulness for seekers and the fundamental insights they provide, these three talks have been reproduced in this volume.
Even though it is faith and acceptance that are normally considered paramount in religion, the role of reason and knowledge can in no way be denied even in a fruitful religious life. The book begins with enquiry into the common beliefs and practices. Then using simple but irrefutable logic, in a step-by-step approach, it is clearly shown that what we call life or living is in fact a revelation of our own inner SELF This Self is indeed not different from what the religionists call "God", the philosophers call "Ultimate Reality", and the spiritualists call "Spirit" or "Consciousness"
