IT gives me immense pleasure to bring to light the "Sevantika Parinayam" written by Cokka nätha which was hitherto unpublished. The dramatist hails from a well-known family of scholars who flourished under the royal patronage of the Nayaks of Tanjore.
Very little information is available about the author either in his works or from other sources. The author was the fifth son in order among the six sons of Tippädhvarindra of Bharadwaja Gotra. All the six brothers were profound scholars with good reputation. Cokkanatha must have lived at least for a few years in the court of the King Shahaji (A. D. 1684-1710) who was a great lover of Arts and literature. During that period, the historical play "Kantimati Parinayam" might have been written which deals with the marriage of Shahaji with Kintimati.
