Dr. Bhrigupati Pandey, Ph.D, D.Lit. is one of the most revered academician of Ayurveda. Since 4 decades he has been serving and contributing in the sphere of Ayurveda. An Ex. executive member of Central Council Of Indian Medicine and now as a member of this council, he is working as a torch bearer for Ayurvedic seekers. Writer of many books, key speaker of numerous national and international seminars, he has been honoured in Netherlands, and by our late Ex. President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam as well as by many institutions of India and abroad. 22 students have completed their Ph.D. under his guidance. Earlier he worked as Principal of Ayurvedic college of Varanasi and Pilibhit and now he is working as Dean of Ayurvedic faculty of D.Y. Patil University of Pune. Because of his unbiased nature he is very popular among his students and staff. To pacify the inquisitiveness of medical students and non medicos, he tried to reveal empirically the enigmatic field of Health and Nutrition through this book.
Dr. Madhu Pandey is a renowned nutritionist and a Ph.D. in Yoga. She has attended and spoken at many National and International conferences and published many papers on Yoga and nutrition. She is a regular guest lecturer at many Indian and Foreign Universities. From being bed-ridden to a fitness freak, her journey is inspirational. She manifests human will through her way of life. In this book she has transformed into words the knowledge she has acquired on her journey so the readers can learn about the meaning of true health and how to achieve a healthy lifestyle through Yoga and nutrition, so we can all transform our lives.
Humanity has been toiling hard to conquer diseases and pain since the dawn of human civilization. All Sciences in one way or the other are engaged in the combat against these evils. Writing on health, food and Yoga is not a novel, astonish or uncommon. Any Tom, Dick or Harry can give a lecture or hundreds of websites are available on the Internet on this topic. But is this a subtle description? We need a Scientific approach, not a novice superficial approach. We often swing between myth and truth , like fruit is the best dessert. Actually it is better to eat fruit as a snack. Very few people know that it is not healthy to drink limitless amounts of fresh juices. The daily intake of juices should not be more than three glasses. Do you know that roasted papad and curd counter the effect of spices. Tangerine coloured Tomato has more vitamin C than a red coloured Tomato. After reading this book, the darkness of misconception will vanish. This book is a comprehensive guide, full of ama7ing scientific facts and advices to attain holistic health.
The subject of health is very important. For this purpose one must take care of both Body and Mind, as they are interdependent on each other. There are various definitions of health but the one that has been accepted by WHO is similar to that explained in Ayurveda. For achieving proper health, one must follow regular routine, have diet suitable to his/her own constitution and carry out Yoga exercises. Meditation and going to the nature to receive positive energy also plays important role. In this book written by my friends, Prof. Bhrigupati Pandey and his wife Madhu Pandey, they have described all important aspects of health starting from fundamental principles of Ayurveda —Man is miniature of Nature. The book also explains the relation between health and disease and we can avoid diseases if proper care is taken at proper time. Nutrition is one of the important aspects for maintenance of health. Ayurveda believes that (improper) food causes diseases and (proper) food also cures diseases. In this world we see that people are eating junk food, stale food, quick food, excessive oily foods. They have forgotten what the qualities of food and how to cook healthy foods. There is no substitute for good daily exercise. Yogic postures are the exercise for the hollow organs of the body and that is how our internal physiology can be regulated correctly if we carry out Yogic postures regularly. Similarly Yogic Shuddhi Kriyas throw out toxins accumulated in the body and they must be done as and when they are required. I would therefore advise the readers to go through this book in which all the above topics have been explained in easy and licid manner.
