About the Book:
This book entitled Socio-Economic Ideas in Ancient Indian Literature brings out the great richness of the ancient Indian literature and also demonstrates the relevance of the Indian classical thoughts for the contemporary challenges of life. It contains many innovative suggestions for realising maximum human welfare in the midst of the present-day social, cultural and the political setting. It has compiled, at one place, the excerpts from the different sources of the Indian classical literature, dealing with the diverse subjects such as Agriculture, Animals, Plants, Forest and Gardens, Food and Drinks, Education and Environment. Two interesting themes of contemporary relevance, viz. Corruption such as Krsiparasara, Vrksayurveda etc. have also been quoted. The Sanskrit quotations are drawn from diverse sources such as Vedas, Puranas, Upanisads, Smrtis, and literary compositions. The various chapters contain brief discussion of the themes and translations of the Sanskrit quotations in English.
The style of presentation in the volume is very lucid and communicative. The book is commended both to the scholars and to the students of the Indian classical literature.
About the Author:
Shri A. R. Panchamukhi is a unique scholar of indology with formal education in Engineering and Sanskrit. Had indepth training in the Sastras and the Sanskrit literature, at the feet of his revered father, - Vidyaratna, Mahamahopadhyaya Shri R. S. Panchamukhi, - a recepient of President's Certificate of Honour.
He has authored and edited more than 25 books in the fields of philosophy, religion, Dasasahitya and literature. Masamahatmya and Sadhanadipika are the two volumes earned high acclamations from the scholars and devout public.
Shri Panchamukhi has been honoured by Shri Raghawendra Swamy Mutt, with the award of Shri Sujayeendra vidyaparitoshaka and also felicitated by the Karnatak Pustak Prakashan Sanstha, at Hubli.
He is currently Executive Director of the MP Birla Foundation, Social Science Research Project, located at the Centre for Multi-disciplinary Development Research in Dharwad & founder-Director of Shri Raghawendra Tirtha Pratisthan and Shri R. S. Panchamukhi Indological Research Centre in Dharwad.
