The book presents a descriptive account of the development of phonological and early lexicon in the speech is discussed spelling out the word level strategies and processes characteristic of this their phonological development beyond this stage, focusing on the complex stages through which Tamil and Telugu phonemes passed in their speech before attaining adult norms. About the Author
Dr. B. Lakshmi Bai is a professor at the Centre of Advanced Study in Linguistics at Osmania University. She has a Master's Degree in Linguistics from Cornell University, U.S.A., for her research 'A case grammar of Hindi'. Her doctoral dissertation was published and later reprinted by Central Hindi Institute, Agra. She joined the University in 1965 and has served as Head of the Department, Chairperson, Board of Studies, Coordinator, CAS in Linguistics, and as Dean, Faculty of Arts.
Prof. Lakshmi Bai has published extensively in national and international journals and books in the areas of Hindi linguistics, syntax and semantics, language contact and convergence, applied linguistics and child language development. She has coordinated the publications: Studies in Dravidian and General Linguistics: A Festschrift for Bh. Krishnamurti, Tense and Aspect in Indian Languages, and Language Development and Language Disorders: Perspectives from Indian Languages.
