Narayanopanisad is a part of Taittiriya Aranyaka of Krsna Yajurveda. Though it is not one of the ten principal Upanisads, it has a special significance for the followers of Vaisnava tradition. The Supremacy of Visnu is especially brought out in this Upanisad. Many passages of this Upanisad are quoted in Sri Madhvacharya's works and are commented upon.
Two commentaries are available on this work. Sri Dhirendratirtha of Sri Raghavendra Swamy Matha has commented upon it in a lucid way. The second commentary is written by Sri Gajendragad Raghavendracharya also known as Satara Raghavendracharya as he had settled down at Satara. He was a great scholar of Vyakarana also. Details of his Vyakarana and Vedanta works are given in the Sanskrit introduction. His two grand sons viz., Asvathamacharya and Setumadhava-charya, the elder brothers of Justice Mr. Gajendragadkar, were Professors of Sanskrit at the Elephinston College, Bombay and Karnataka College. Dharwad.
This work was first edited in 1995 by Vidwan Sri Guruvenkatacharya. He had written a detailed introduction in Sanskrit. The same is retained in this edition also.
