(1904-1991) was a disciple of Swami Shivanandaji Maharaj, one of the eminent disciples of Sri Ramakrishna. The Swami was a vice-president of the Ramakrishna Order during 1985-1991. He was an erudite scholar in Indian and Western philosophy. He has to his credit many books in English, including the translations of many scriptures. His translation of Srimad Bhagavatam in four volumes has been highly acclaimed in intellectual and devotional circles.

Swami Tapasyananda (1904-1991) was a vice- president of the Ramakrishna Order and the editor of the Vedanta Kesari from May 1931 to April 1939. A deep thinker and a prolific writer, he has written several books and translated many scriptures into English. Present book is a set of essays originally published as editorials in the Vedanta Kesari in 1939. The material has been rearranged under suitable headings and subheadings are provided for easy reading. The essay on Religious Pluralism first appeared in 1979 as an introduction to Dharma Sagara, a Sanskrit epic poem on Sri Ramakrishna by Dr P.K. Narayana Pillai, a noted scholar. This book is compiled by Br. Srishachaitanya, a brahmacharin of the Ramakrishna Order.
