Having brought out ‘Purushasuktam’ with cogent commentaries, the Academy of Sanskrit research is now presenting ‘Srisuktam’ with adhering glosses to the purport and spirit of Mantras. ‘Sri’ synonymous with ‘Laksmi’ is the Deity of prosperity, happiness and a symbol of all that is good. A hymn in choicest of words devoted to ‘Sri’ appreciating ‘Her’ beautifu; charming attributes is what forms ‘Srisuktam’ occurring in fifth book of Rgveda.
Though several scholastic versions dispute over ‘Srisuktam’ for not making an original part of the Rgveda and considering it to be an appendix (Khila), its poetic richness hardly allows this issue to overshadow. Following this Vedic prayer cum encomium, there have come songs of ecstatic beauty on Laksmi’s perennial flow of unconditional compassion for ‘Jivas’ in making them jocund here and cause to liberate them to the highest abode hereafter.
The Supreme Being deriver his power of creation from His divine consort ‘Sri’. Our traditional scriptures assertively advocate a doctrine of worship of the Divine Couple in eternal harmony.
This book is presented with three coherent commentaries lucidly written to ‘Srisuktam’. We owe our thanks to Vid. S. Narayana and his team of scholars consisting Vid. G. S. Srinath and K. Srinivasan in bringing out this book of intrinsic value, and thanks are also due to all those who have worked for getting this book printed.
