We feel it necessary to explain the reason behind publishing another edition of the Bhagavad-Gita, particularly when so many already exist. Actually, there are two main reasons:-
1. As you will see, we have mentioned the "rooра", that is the grammatical identification of each and every word used in various verses. This has ensured that our word meanings and translations do not convey different meanings than what was intended in the original texts. We have not come across such a feature in any of the editions that we have seen so far.
Further, we have tried to ensure that one gets the messages of the various verses simply by reading these translations. We are of the view that, just like a Sanskrit knowing person can understand the original verses, similarly one who knows English should be able to understand/comprehend by reading the English translations.
With this in mind, we have tried to match the word meanings with the English translations. Since there are differences in the styles of Sanskrit and English languages, we have added words as required but marked them by putting such additional words within brackets. By reading the word meanings alongwith these additional words, the messages of the verses become clearer. We faced another difficulty in translating Sanskrit words because there are differences in the grammars of Sanskrit and English. By using brackets, we have tried to tide over this problem.
