One of the most important Hindu texts, the Bhagavat Puran, is a collection of stories of Lord Vishnu narrated by Sage Shuka to King Parikshit, the grandson of Arjuna. Parikshit, who has been cursed by a Brahmin and is destined to die within a week, purifies his soul and prepares for his looming death listening to the divine stories. The next offering in the same bouquet is The Story of Bharata, which compiles the rest of the stories of the Bhagavat Puran. Apart from keeping children productively occupied, one of the objectives of the books under Mythology and Folk Tales series is to introduce children to the roots of Indian culture, philosophy and tradition.
