Authors Anil Kumar Jha and Ajit Kumar Bishnoi, in this book, list 108 virtues and tell us how these virtues, if cultivated, can not only save one from the surety of doom but can also make one the master of one's own destiny.
This book gives guidance for developing divine qualities of head and heart, such as compassion, devotion, forgiveness, impartiality, courage, determination, introspection, honesty, vision, truth, etc. And what one learns is that more virtues one acquires, easier it becomes for one to solve problems of life.
Our publication - 100 Roadblocks was well received by readers. They appreciated this compilation of common problems and their solutions, which is like a ready reckoner. As the next logical step, we thought of compiling another book, which gives guidance for developing divine qualities such as love, devotion, mercy, etc. Solving problems helps in leading a good life, but we can make progress only when we possess good qualities. These are useful in this life and even beyond.
We have chosen 108 such qualities. To give an insight, we refer you to the sixteenth chapter of the Bhagavad-Geeta, where Lord Krishna has spoken about divine endowments. He has named twenty-six of them in the first three verses. Beginning with fearlessness and purity of heart, He goes on to the quality of the quality of not being desirous of excessive honour. Inevitably, we have included them in our list of 108 qualities. These qualities contribute to making our lives blissful.
In order to compile this new book and to make it most authentic, we started to scan all the verses of the Bhagavad-Geeta in order to identify the 108 most important qualities mentioned therein. The idea was not only to identify 108 divine qualities but also to suggest ways to develop them and indicate their benefits. As we had done in 100 Roadblocks, we have tried to quote as many verses of the Bhagavad-Geeta as was possible. In addition, we have used our knowledge of spiritual science and our realizations in order to come up with generally ten ways to develop all these qualities and ten benefits of them. Thus this book is, in fact, 'Success Follows Virtues' and a natural successor to 100 Roadblocks.
This exercise revealed one important fact: most of us are generally inclined to look for faults in others, whereas seeing good qualities will endear us to all. This is a matter of habit and should be developed by conscious practice. To name a few benefits of doing so, we will be more positive; others will be more receptive to us; and we ourselves will be inspired to develop good qualities.
Out of the 100 problems, one may have only a few pronounced ones. Still, one should go through all the problems and rate oneself on a scale of 1-10. This will be an interesting exercise to understand oneself better.
