The Glossary of Indian Medicinal Plants was published by the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research in June under the authorship of R. N. Chopra, S. L. Nayar and I. C. Chopra. The book has been much appreciated and well received by research workers dealing with indigenous drugs and medicinal plants, and it forms a constant source book of reference for botanists, chemists and pharmacologists.
Since the publication of the Glossary, a considerable amount of work on medicinal plants has been done and a large volume of literature has accumulated. In order to bring the Glossary up to date, it was thought worth while to publish a supplement containing all the information and references on the subject published between 1955 and 1964.
In this supplement, the plants are arranged alphabetically according to their botanical names as in the Glossary. Plants which were not included in the Glossary and which occur for the first time in the Supplement have been marked with an asterisk. In such cases, their vernacular names, where available, synonyms, if any, distribution and habitat have been given as in Glossary.
This Supplement like the original Glossary, we feel sure, will be helpful to those who are interested in Indian medicinal plants and indigenous drugs. Those who are interested in obtaining detailed information may refer to the original papers or abstracts, for which references are included.
