Dr. Diptirekha Mohapatra has completed her masters in Applied Economics, Law and Business Management. She has worked as a lawyer in Odisha High Court for a considerable period of ten years. Having done her Ph.D in Law, she has also qualified UGC NET in Law and Labour Welfare. Besides having worked as a full time faculty in School of Management Studies (SMS) of Ravenshaw University and Bhubaneshwar Institute of Management and Information Technology (BIMIT) of BPUT for more than seven years, she has also served as a Visiting faculty in a number of reputed institutes and colleges of Odisha. Currently She has teaching experi ence of more than ten years. Presently, she holds the post of Assistant Professor in P.G.Department of Law, Sambalpur University. She has published more than twenty articles in International and National Journals of great repute. She has edited two books. She has attended more than forty five International and National Conferences & Seminars. She has undertaken major research project funded by IMPRESS, ICSSR. Her research areas include Social Security, Labour Welfare, Women Rights, Child Rights and Environmental Protection. She has teaching interests pertaining to areas of Labour Law, Commercial Law, Criminal Law and Family Law.

Smt. Indurekha Mohapatra, having an excellent academic career joined Odisha Education Service (OES-CB) in 1990. She has long 32 years of teaching and 30 years of Post-Graduate teaching experience. She has guided many M.Phil and more than 50 P.G. students for their disserta tion thesis. She has published 7 text books including 01 in NGO Management in DDCE, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and 02 for National Open School in vernac ular language for larger interest of the students. She has published more than 10 research articles in different international and national journals. Human Development and she is working as Associate Professor in Home Science in Shailabala Women's (Autonomous) College, Cuttack, Odisha. She has also attended and presented papers in number of international and national seminars and workshops. She is a member of Home Science Association, Odisha. She also guides OAS aspirants, in an honorary capacity, from time to time.

Women are blessed with a beautiful capacity to procreate a life within them Every woman cherishes the experiences the motherhood."Motherhood" is an heavenly experience for an woman which make her complete .From Vedic literature to scientific research it appears that motherhood is an instinct driven physiological phenomena It is the most powerful desire of every living creature in this world including the animal and human being But for an infertile couple this term motherhood is an unfulfilled dream .So far India is concerned infertility is considered as a social stigma. Though it does not claim any life but still the influence of it inflicts destructing influences on the life of an individual for not fulfilling the biological role of a parent for without any fault of his or her. Generally, it is a concept in Indian society that there must be a stable family structure with a lineage or Vansh preferably with a son. With this strong believe in this concept the term "Surrogacy" has been proved as a panacea for those infertile couple to compensate all their unfulfilled dreams by using the new medical technologies collectively called as Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) such as In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).But in India surrogacy as a commercial form practised since 2002. Due to lack of strict laws in our country to control commercialization of surrogacy is a difficult task. However, in India there are certain guidelines to restrict this process of commercial surrogacy which needs to be followed by those who are involved in the process of surrogacy. Surrogacy arrangement in a country like India is characterized by confusion and uncertainty. Apart from the legal issue there are other issues connected with this practice like social, metaethical etc. On the one hand, though it provides relief to the infertile couple but on the other hand it turns motherhood as a business, a way to earn heavy amount of money. This book "Surrogacy: Socio-Legal Issues and Challenges" aims to focus on the need and importance of the concept of Surrogacy and its socio-legal dimensions, issues and challenges.
