Food and nutritional security is of utmost importance in the resent times as food production is showing a decelerating trend and food I prices are constantly going up because of increased demand for food. The food production has increased from 50 million tones to 231 million tones during 2007-08. However, self-sufficiency in food production shall have to be achieved on a sustainable basis. The government has to ensure access to safe and good food to all people at all times. Consistent efforts have to be made to increase agricultural production by maintaining and conserving the natural resources and empowering the people to increase the economic access to food.
