Swami Ram Tirath renounced his domestic life to seek truth. His concept of Vedanta is fairly comprehensive and all pervading. He was very much fascinated by the syllable Om. According to him Om has a charm and majesty of its own. In Rama's concept of nationalism, there is love and love alone. He also discussed the poverty of the Indian masses. He opined that poverty is the mother of all social, political and moral ills. The theme has eleven chapters and appendices. They deal with his early life, as a professor, the preacher, the gospel of nature, the poet, Vedanta, Rama, the patriot, the goal of life, his personality, religion and contemporary problems of India.

Dr. S.R. Bakshi, Ph.D., D.Litt. is an eminent scholar of Modern Indian History and is the author of several works on Indian nationalism and freedom movement. His recent works include 'Encyclopaedic History of Indian Culture and Religion' (in 5 Vols.), The Great Marathas' (in 5 Vols.), The Great Rajputs' (in 6 Vols.), 'B.R. Ambedkar: His Political and Social Ideology' (in 2 Vols.), 'Encyclopaedic History of The Sikhs and Sikhism' (in 6 Vols.), The Great Moghuls' (in 8 Vols.), and 'Development of Women, Children and Weaker Sections' (in 5 Vols.). Dr. Bakshi is member of several academic institutions having deep bearing on historical research.

Dr. Sangh Mittra, LL.B. Ph.D. from Lucknow University, is Dy. Director (Research) in Indian Council of Historical Research. Her Ph.D. thesis on 'Iconographic Study of Minor Brahmanical Deities in Northern India' is published along with more than 20 Research Papers in reputed historical journals. She is Life Member of several academic institutions and a reputed examiner of Ph.D. thesis of Universities of North India. Besides she has actively participated in numerous national and international Seminars.

The contribution of the Punjab, the land of five rivers, is quite significant in the domain of culture. The saints, rishis and yogis spent their career here mostly in the Vedic age. So far so the Bhagwat Gita which has deep bearing on Hindu philosophy, was recited in this region. In fact the emergence of numerous bhakti cults in different regions of our sub-continent made deep impact on Punjab.

Swami Ram Tirath was born on 22 October, 1873 in a small village, Muraliwala, district Gujranwala. His father, Gosain Hiranand, earned his living by performing religious ceremonies of his devotees. Young Tirath Ram received his early education in the Mission High School, Gujranwala and passed his Matriculation with thirty-eighth position in the Punjab University. In the B.A. examination he topped in the university. He passed his M.A. in Mathematics with distinction. He joined the Mission High School, Sialkot as a teacher. Soon after he joined the Mission College as a lecturer.

Side by side with his teaching work, Ram Tirath longed for a meeting with the Lord. He was a poet par excellence. He enjoyed in the midst of nature.
