Dr. Subrata Kumar Banerjea was born in Calcutta, India in 1957, the fourth generation of a distinguished and widely respected homoeopathic family. He graduated in Homoeopathy from the University of Calcutta with a record number of honours passes in nine medical subjects and with five gold medals to his name, setting himself on a path to become an internationally acclaimed homoeopathic clinician, lecturer and author. He is now acknowledged to be the world's leading authority on miasmatic prescribing. Dr. Banerjea is an Honoured Fellow of several academies, Director and Principal Lecturer of the Bengal Allen Medical Institute, Calcutta: Principal and Chief Lecturer of Materia Medica and Clinical Therapeutics at the Allen College of Homoeopathy (www.allencollege.co.uk), Essex, England. When he is not lecturing, he divides his time between his clinical practices in the United Kingdom and periodically he visits India where he also acts as Clinical Consultant in various rural and slum clinics. Despite this hectic international scheduling and busy homoeopathic practice in England, Dr Banerjea together with his brother Joy. son Saptarshi and his wife Janet, plays an active role in the Kamala Banerjee Memorial Fund, a charity which distributes milk & homoeopathic prescriptions to the poor children of Calcutta.
Students of Dr. Banerjea will testify to the remarkable knowledge and enthusiasm which he generously imparts to all who share his passion for this most rational of healing arts. His dedication to the truth of homoeopathy is regarded as inspiring and unsurpassed.

1 am particularly happy to go through the manuscript of Shri Subrata Kumar Banerjea's Synoptic Memorizer of Materia Medica. The reason for this is that I have not come across someone himself a student of the College who has put in such diligence and produced a worth-while book. Having himself gone through the mill recently, known the difficulties of his colleagues, he has particularly written it for their benefit as its name suggests. However, I feel that even those in the profession would considerably profit from its study, So far, he has covered only fifty remedies and 1 do hope that he will bring out further volumes to cover the rest of the Materia Medica.
A mere glance at the different headings and the chapters gives an insight into his vast study and great labour in writing this book.
There has often been a debate as to whether the Materia Medica should give the personality profiles or the key-notes. From the name of the book, one may be inclined to put it in the latter category. However, looking through it, one finds a blend of both as some explanation or details of the outstanding symptoms are mentioned with many of the remedies.
The Repertorial references and the Comparative Materia Medica, so essential for an accurate prescribing are very welcome aspects of this book.
There are many Materia Medicas that are available and the question can be asked is there need for more? My answer is that every author looks at the gem of our remedies from a different angle and sheds a new lustre by bringing out some fresh points or at least arranging it in a new form.
As mentioned above, it would be particularly welcomed by the students of the homoeopathic institutions especially when they are preparing for their examinations.
