Tere Sur Aur Mere Geet captures the true spirit of Lata Mangeshkar, the queen of melody, as she shares memorable anecdotes from her life with RJ Anirudh. With an illustrious career spanning over seven decades, she speaks in depth about her struggles and successes in the film industry and throws light on the complex relationships she had with Indian cinemas legends. She also enthrals us with priceless behind-the-scenes stories from her greatest hits-from Aayega Aanewala to Tujhe Dekha to Yeh Jana Sanam, and from Madhumati to Chandni. RJ Anirudh also shares rare photos of Lataji from his exclusive magazine and poster archives, curated over a span of 50 years. Till now, you knew Lata Mangeshkar as the Nightingale of India; now meet Lata Didi-the woman behind the voice.
RJ Anirudh Chawla is one of the most renowned Film and Music Journalists in India, having hosted popular shows on BigFM, Radio City and All India Radio over the last 25 years. He has had the privilege of interviewing the biggest legends across generations - from Amitabh Bachchan, Dev Anand, and Waheeda Rehman, to Shahrukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt. Anirudh is also the writer of the biopic PM Narendra Modi (2019), and has directed Sabki Bajegi Band (2015), for which he won the Best Screenplay Award at the International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema at London.
It is as impossible to think of Indian cinema without her, as it is to think of a film being without a projector. It is indeed, Lata Mangeshkar whom we called and cherished as Lata Didi who became the Voice of the Nation.
After a formidable struggle to render playback songs for the Mumbai-produced films ever since the 1940s, she became more than an intrinsic part of the world's largest film producing country and was equally at home singing in various languages. In fact, there has been no comparable force of nature in our midst down the decades well into the new millennium. Of course, reams of words from my part on her God-given artistry and talent would not be sufficient for this foreword which I have been privileged to pen for RJ Anirudh Chawla's book "Tere Sur Aur Mere Geet". A music journalist for over quarter of a decade, he has also been the Screenplay and Dialogue writer for the popular biopic of our respected Prime Minister, PM Narendra Modi (2019), and director of the film Sabki Bajegi Band (2015) for which he won the Best Screenplay Award at the International Filmmaker of World Cinema Festival in London.
The dashing 80-year-old Dev Anand is being interviewed by RJ Anirudh Chawla on the eve of the release of his forthcoming film, Love At Times Square, when he suddenly receives a phone call. Dev picks up the phone with a suave flourish and hollers cheerfully in his trademark sing- song style.
