The Thirukkural is one of the greatest pieces of literature of all times. Penned by sage thiruvalluvar, he was a profound thinker and a man of sublime wisdom. This 2000 year old poet has given the world a wonderful code of conduct, which if followed is certain to help one achieve a higher state being. The thirukkural contains some of the greatest truth of life, written in a style that has been unsurpassed. It is a book for all of humanity and eternal. A world that lives by its teachings shall enjoy peace harmony, health, wealth, power grace and bliss.
Thirukkural translates to Holy Kural, the world thiru denotes Sanctity, and the world Kural means couplet. The Thirukkural consists of 133 chapters and each chapter contains 10 couplets composed in the kural venba meter.
The Thirukkural is in the form of sacred couplets, which convey great and meaningful thoughts. It deals with concepts of virtue, wealth and Love. The Thirukkural is a code of ethics that is for everyone; life common man, the administrator, the kind and even for the ascetic.
Divided into three parts is called Arattupaal (on Virtue and contains 38 chapter, which enumerate the way to live a morally upright life, encompassing topics such as a happy married life and the greatest of those who renounce the world, amongst others. The second part is called Porutpall (on Wealth) and defines the conduct for those involved in administration and socio-political life; beside spelling out moral rules for social relation and citizenship. The third part is called Kamathuppaal (on Love) and deals with love, about physical longing about true love and its nuances.
