So all the religions claim, rather proudly, that Valluvar, the author of Kural, belongs to their religion or sect. But Kural is a treatise, not only secular in character, but also with some lofty ideals, which are universally acclaimed by all the religions of the world.
His Kural is perfect in itself with its greatness of universal outlook, human approach and exquisite verses. It transcends all barriers of race, region, religion, class, creed, language etc. Thus, Thirukkural occupies a pride place among the world literature.
Thirukkural has been translated like Bible into various languages of the world and is read and praised by one and all. As early as in 18th century with the advent of Europeans in Tamilnadu, the foreign scholars and Missionaries had introduced Thirukkural to the Western world.
