Among the great books of India Thiruvoymozhi of Nammalwar has a unique place. It is the outpouring of a great Sage who having gone into deep meditation and yoga for years gave to the World many valuable thoughts on God, Divine Love and Service, the ways of the World and how to overcome them, nature and its lesson and above all his Prophetic advice. He speaks with confidence born of great revelations. Such revelations come to very few great people and when it comes, it is very rare that they are preserved in such an everlasting manner.
Alwar speaks for all times and his experiences are wonderful and soul stirring. The Nayaka Nayaki Bhavana (God as Purushothama) is of very high order. When he speaks of Krishna or Srinivasa, he falls into a trance.
It is my feeling that sufficient attention has not been given to Alwar's works and utterances. They were withheld as too sacred for the common plane and consider a sacred book to be read by a few people and at some appointed places.
Alwar's verses must be made more popular and easily accessible. In fact, they must be on the lips of everyone.
Sri P. Sri. Acharya has done great service to the world by bringing before the people the works of Alwar's and Acharyas in a pleasing manner. His Divya Prabanda Saram is a unique book, in an unrevealed field. His Chita Thiruppavai published by Tirupathi Tirumalai Devasthanam is an unsurpassed illustrated edition and is running into several editions. His Biography of Ramanuja was recently given National Award as the best book of the year.
This edition of Thiruvoymozhi is unique in several respects. It is printed in a very readable form. This Heading, the Padayari and Vilakkam all help to easily comprehend the meaning of the verses. Such a rendering was not attempted before and Mr. P. Sri. Acharya has laid under deep debt of gratitude. We are thankful to the Publishers for having undertaken this work. It may be fairly voluminous, but worthwhile. I understand that this first volume contains 250 verses. The rest of the volumes will come quick succession. May this great publication with appreciation and support!
