IN THE FIRST OF HIS SERIES OF 3 BOOKS GIAN KUMAR answers our questions related to spirituality in a simple and seamless manner. From time immemorial, people have searched for definitive responses to questions such as: Who am I? Where do I come from? Does God exist? What is the essence of my relationship with Him?
Gian's thoughts are an amalgam of Science, Spirituality and Philosophy. He believes that once we discover our true selves, our lives can be freed from stress, depression and misery. The core of this series is based upon the absolute reality of life - Oneness between the Self and the Universe.
Knowing oneself is the most challenging task. It involves accepting our alter ego or shadow- self. When we understand and accept who we really are, in totality. We have a better chance of achieving what we want from our lives.
Know Thyself-herein lies the key to success, happiness and fulfilment...
GIAN KUMAR was born into a traditional Hindu family, in Burma (Myanmar). From childhood, his life held paradoxes. While he was educated at a Christian boarding school, which observed strict religious practices, these were diametrically opposed to the Hindu traditions and customs which were the norm when he went home for the holidays.
WHO CAN KNOW CHILDREN BETTER than their parents, and parents better than their children? Hence, I am perhaps the right person to write the foreword for this book by my father. I also think it should be about him.
WHEN LIFE IS SUBMERGED in the trappings of materialism and existence revolves around me, mine and myself, we experience the hollow feeling that all that is ours today is ephemeral both the emotional and the material.
I am indebted to the following people:
Friends and family members, who encouraged me at every step, indulging me during my lengthy monologues on the subject of Spirituality. Their invaluable critiques helped me tide over doubts and rough stages during the writing process;
My Editors, for improving form and content, and patiently re-reading drafts of the manuscript;
To my wife Komilla Kumar, thank you for your patience, love, support and inspiration.
To my children, Nadisha Gulati and Shreeya Kumar Bhola, who will always be my creative force.
Finally, I dedicate this in memory of my parents, my greatest inspiration, for making me who I am today.
THE SECOND BOOK OF HIS 3-VOLUME SERIES, is based upon his learnings about life and existence derived from ancient Indian philosophy: Spiritualism is defined in the East as the science of higher consciousness and explains Oneness and the harmonious coexistence of Man with the Universe. These pages are about understanding the divine within us; how to live spiritually, moment to moment, and enjoy every aspect of life without assistance from any external source.
The niceties of life which we all crave, also create many struggles and conflicts. We reach for books on spiritual development or join spiritual classes or religious centres, hoping for clarity and salvation, only to realize we are more confused than before. In fact, our confusion has been compounded by complexity.
This is where this simple book speaks to us in a straightforward, down-to-earth manner, revealing there are no diktats we need to follow - only the voice within. We notice the change as through constant vigil, the sub-conscious takes over and we evolve by ourselves - alone; experientially.
IN TODAY'S WORLD, IT IS ESSENTIAL to know the meaning and essence of spiritualism. When things do not work at home, with friends or at work, it is your spiritual quotient, which comes to your aid. Don't you agree that under the pretext of fulfilling desires, attachments and accumulations, we have stopped being humane? Lengthy spiritual discourses are proving to be of no use, if the essence of loving and caring for others is not inculcated.
GIAN KUMAR DISCUSSES THE POWER OF ONENESS in the last book of his 3-volume series. He deals with this core reality and the struggle imbedded in living lives of duality in the material and technological world. Happiness unhappiness, good-bad, God-Devil - all exist as 'One'. Despite the teachings of spiritual gurus and masters, ers, life fails to give us the much- needed solace. Something remains missing...
The mind, with its constant chatter and habit of delving into past experiences or anxieties about the future, does not permit us to live in the present moment, in awareness of the now. By the time the mind registers this moment, it has already passed and a new now has taken its place.
In this final volume, the author delves into a deeper existence where, through experiential realization, we are able to go beyond the mind with its dual thoughts, to a state of higher consciousness. He shows us methods we can use to attain this state and thus enter the no-mind zone the experience of which takes us to our core, centralizing the extremes of duality and helping us attain awareness of being one with the Universe.
SPIRITUALISM, IN ITS TRUE ESSENCE, is never attained by seeking; it cannot be bought off the shelf or found by listening to discourses on enlightenment or liberation. Spiritualism, unlike religion, is achieved purely through our way of living. It is an ongoing process in which the mind is set aside.
