Book Description
About The Book

To Dance with Dakinis is a study of the universal law of cause and effect, how events in our life, our deeds, thoughts and reactions impel the process of rebirth. The story begins in 12th century Tibet, with a woman's search for the Goddess and the deeper truths of life. A crisis that she encounters leads her to a great Master who helps awaken memories of her previous life in medieval France and a much earlier life in China, during which events were set in motion that led her to the crisis she now faced. The book follows her through death, the time between earthly rebirths and then her rebirth in India, where she brings to conclusion unfinished matters from her life in Tibet. In the process of her journey, great teachings are conveyed, teachings that we can all apply to our lives today.

About the Author

Dena's stories reflect the magic she writes about. She first draws you in by awakening your curiosity. Then she fascinates you with the lyricism of the story and opens the door to liminal spaces within you. In To Dance with Dakinis, you travel to medieval Tibet and India, during extraordinary times. You meet ordinary people dealing with human suffering and you visit magical lakes and mountains. As the story unfolds across three lifetimes, you get a glimpse of the time between lives through the eyes of Usha, who is working through her karmic residues, and her inexhaustible love for Satya. You also meet the great Mother, Dalha and through her dakinis, teachers and the great Guru Rinpoche! As Dena unravels the threads that links together these three lives, she also shares with you the spiritual history of Tibet and India and the deep interconnection of these two great civilizations. She helps to awaken your awe and love for the Mother, and reclaim the healing power of the feminine energy that has been violated for millennia and continues to be suppressed. You are very likely to experience spiritual courage, great compassion, and deep healing but also to be held by profound depths of reverence and quietude by the time you finish this fascinating book.

Introduction

Friends often ask me about the process of recalling memories of people and events of long ago. They pose questions to which I have no answer. All I can say is that what I write is from my personal experiences. I do, however, call upon what is known as poetic license to bring my experiences to life, to add richness and detail in the hope that my reader will be able to enter the time periods and realms about which I write. If some of my writings seem fantastical, I can only say that life itself is fantastical. We see only the surface of things, and there is far more to what we encounter than appears to the human mind. Most of us can't perceive our history with our family and acquaintances or know the cause of events, but we can be certain that there are hidden back stories, layers upon layers of interwoven events as I have tried to portray in all my books. I have also hoped to show that linear time has no true relevance. At a certain point, past, present, and future converge in an eternal now, and whether or not we are aware of it, we live in all time periods and all dimensions at once. My focus has long been the complex and mysterious workings of cause and effect, karmic unfolding, and the neutralizing of the mental imprints known as samskara in the hope that whatever understanding is gained will help us to become more aware in our daily lives, more conscious of the big picture, of the vastness that is condensed for our convenience into a tiny frame.
