The affair of plants with Homoeopathy has been a long one. From its budding time, the relation of Homoeopathy with the plants has deepened. Since Homoeopathy is a nature- based science and the plants comprise a major portion of the Mother Nature, Homoeopathy is bound to be influenced by the curative powers of these elements of substance, that we know by the name of plants. Tylophora indica is one of the most easily found plants in the Indian territory and also one of the major contributions of India to the homoeopathic materia medica. Because the plant can be found easily in India, the Council took up the task of studying it exhaustively, as then it could prove to be a reliable Indian homoeopathic drug. The study included various aspects of drug standardization, like physico-chemical, pharmacological and pharmacognostical studies done by the scientists of the Council. The drug proving (homoeopathic pathogenetic trial) and clinical verification studies have also yielded valuable information about the several conditions in which this drug can be indicated.

As a dedicated research organization in Homoeopathy, it has been an endeavour of the Council to conduct researches on a number of partially studied drugs and a few new drugs. This monograph is an outcome of one such extensive study on Tylophora indica.
