Foreword

Greetings from Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU)!

Netaji Subhas Open University, the sole State Open University in West Bengal has been actively engaged in the development and qualitative expansion of the higher Education in the State through open and distance mode of teaching, learning and research since its inception on 25th November, 1997.

NSOU is now going through a phase where in addition to the traditional teaching-learning processes practiced in the ODE since 1980s, different ICT components are being blended in rapidly increasing proportions for timely interaction and quicker dissemination of deliverables to the learners. To cater to the needs of the ever-increasing learner base, we are developing the e-contents (e-SLM, A/V lectures, SD card, OER repository, MOOCs etc.) for its seamless instantaneous delivery to the learners. These initiatives help us in reaching out to our learners directly with the objective to make them more independent. Such ICT initiative also facilitates any time anywhere learning, ensures inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning for sustainable development.

Besides the teaching learning activities in the realm of higher education, NSOU is deeply committed to conduct research, seminars, conferences and some annual lectures viz. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Memorial Lecture, Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Lecture, Srinivasa Ramanujan Memorial Lecture, Swami Vivekananda Memorial Lecture and Foundation Day Lecture etc. The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Memorial Lecture is one of the most prestigious lectures organized by the University to pay its homage and tribute to Netaji - the unquestionable symbol of patriotism, nationalism and struggle against the British colonialism.
