The second edition of this book was out of print for a long time, but as I had other works on hand, and as I was unwilling to bring out a fresh edition of it without submitting it to as complete a revision as the time at my disposal would allow me to do, I could not bring out the third edition until now in this edition the Sanskrit rendering of the Prakrit passages has been printed along with the text, as in the case of similar editions of other Sanskrit plays brought out by me. I have made a few changes in and additions to the Commentary, suited to the wants of the class of students for whom this edition is intended. Considerable additions have been made to the Notes, while the whole of the Introduction has been recast and in part re-written. In this revision work I have often consulted the editions of this play by Profs Belvalkar and Kane the latter more frequently, and to which I am indebted for a few quotations. I have not always been tried to give my reasons. I thankfully acknowledge this assistance derived from them. Any suggestions &c. for further improving this edition will be cordially welcomed.
