There are many scholars in this world, as also politicians, brave warriors, able entrepreneurs in the industry, agriculturalists, and laborers. All are after creating wealth and fulfilling their desires. Creating wealth and fulfilling desires are essential in the transactions of the world. Since they are the nature of humans, the ancient sages and scholars on Dharma have called them as the goals of life. Since the creation of wealth and fulfillment of desires tend to mean satisfying sensual desires occurring naturally in people. the rule here is to earn it and enjoy it.
Yatobhyudaya Nisreyasa Siddhih sa Dharmah-the ancients have declared this. Here 'abhyudaya' means wealth and desires. Nišreyasa means Möksa or liberation. Nisreyasa is the ultimate goodness above which there is no other goodness.
Wealth and desires can be achieved by improper, adharma means as well. Hence the scriptures decree 'Earn money only through proper ways following Dharma, enjoy the happiness according to Dharma'. Liberation is possible only through the way of Dharma. Scriptures clarify that liberation is impossible for the person following Adharma.
Dharma, Artha and Käma are called 'Trivarga'. For people indulging in the Trivarga, there is no escape from the sorrow of life, birth and death. It is never possible to escape sorrow by following only the path of Dharma. We have examples from the lives of Nala, Hariscandra and Dharmaraya in front of us.
