Man has discovered how to improve upon the living conditions of his habitat for prosperity and how to live with minimum strife and tension, with the aid of Vastu Shastra.

Vastu also guides us on how to live in harmony with our surroundings by arranging our environment. This book gives useful practical tips and advice on how to create a healthy and harmonious living and working environment. In the building techniques drastic changes were made by man under the influence of so called modern architecture, resulting in forgetting the edifice science of Vastu Shastra, the rules and design laid down by the great sages and seers. These rules & regulations were broken during the World Wars. Now it is still not too late to realize that if the basic principles of Vastu Shastra are followed in selection of site and construction of buildings, giving a proper place to the five elements of nature in their structure & living environment, people can get peace and harmony in their homes and business premises.

In this volume the Author has tried to give full justice in explaining the application of Vastu Shastra (the edifice science) and how to apply the principles of Vastu Shastra in Modern Architecture and make the Modern Living comfortable and tension free.

This book of knowledge is with full 'Parampara' explanations in order to establish that the nature, man and product are within evolutionary network guided by performance standards. Vedic knowledge is not a question of research. Our research work is imperfect because we are researching things with imperfect senses. We have to accept perfect knowledge which comes down from the proper sources stated in the Bhagavad Geeta :-

"I was born in the darkest ignorance, and my spiritual master opened my eyes with the touch of knowledge."

PROF. (DR.) B. B. PURI, Ph.D, Arch., D.Sc, D.Litt, M.B.H.B, (RMP) AMICE, USA a veteran from India has a multifaceted personality-being a Sr. practicing Architect, Research Scholar, a Vastu Expert and a distinguished author having written over 50 inspiring books on spiritual and personal growth. His books are a manifestation of his wisdom that he has acquired over the years and selflessly shared with the world.

Prof. Puri has been associated with numerous professional organizations that have contributed to his versatility and depth of character, hence considered a guru, second to none by his disciples. His creative ability and writing prowess has earned him many accolades from the Hon Presidents and Prime Ministers of not only our country but other nations and several other eminent personalities as well..

In my thirty-five years of professional experience as ant architect, I have had many opportunities in India and abroad to study and deal with people having different cultures and style of living and varied problems facing them, which I have endeavoured to discuss in this book. I have also kept in view. the demands made at the International Conferences by the Western people to know more about the Indian philosophy, with particular reference to the Vedic architecture, which inspired me to start writing. In August 1990, I had the honour of delivering lectures on this subject at the invitation of the international organisation 'Moscow Project Management Institution'.

During my studies and profession, I have always been keenly interested in ancestral culture and habitat, particularly during the most ancient 'Vedic' period. This entailed extensive research, as there is no readily available history of Vedic architecture. It has been fascinating to dig out and find that the lifestyle of our ancestors was really scientific.

For the purpose of the reckoning of the Vedic Age, no definite period has been envisaged in this book. The rise of the Vedic knowledge in architecture and its subsequent application in later periods in the Indian history of architecture have been taken into account. The author does not wish to go into the controversy of the exact period of the Vedic Age.

The author's deep knowledge of the Vedic Period of Architecture is clearly seen from the different chapters of the book especially Chapter VIII 'Global Study of Architecture in the Vedic Period', where he has referred to the internationally famous periods of the Vedic era, which will make the contents of this book very interesting for the reader.

Dr. B.B. Puri is known to be a very creative man not just in the field of Architecture but in all aspects connected with it especially the minds of people who wish to indulge in the process of construction in India and his dedication of the book Vedic Architecture to 'Lord Krishna' gives it a touch of the mystic.
