A Village River is the English rendering of Oru Gramathu Nadhi, a collection of Tamil poems by Sirpi Balasubramaniam, which won him the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002. The poems in this collection takes him into the memory lane of his boyhood days at his ancestral village, Athupollachi, a little hamlet enriched by Azihyaru river. The language of this collection is vibrating with emotions carrying the fingerprints of the cultural identity of a village life.
Sirpi Balasubramaniam, is a leading poet in Tamil language. Writing poetry for more than four decades, he has many poetry collection works, literary criticisms and translations to his credit. He edit Vanambadi, a trend-setting progressive Tamil poetry magazine. He has received Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002 and the Akademi Award for his translation from Malayalam into Tamil in 2000.
R. Balachandran 'Bala' (1946-2009) was a Tamil poet, poetry critic and translator. His publications include essays, literary criticism, monographs, surveys and translations. He served as senior academic in M.S. University, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.
