Pigeonpea, an important crop of the tropics, is important for millions of people for meeting their demands for protein, forage, fuel, thatch, basketry and folk medicine. More than hundred of pathogens attack pigeonpea, including Fusarium udum that causes the wilt disease resulting into considerable economic loss to the farmers in developing countries. This soil-borne disease is still very severe in all pigeonpea growing areas of the world. It is high time that efforts are made to develop appropriate measures for controlling the incidence of this disease. Any such effort would, however, require a through understanding of the biology of the pathogen and the host. This book is an effort in this direction as it contains information, ranging from ecology to molecular biology, on most aspects of the disease and the pathogen. Notwithstanding great advances made in understanding the disease and the pathogen, there is still a long way to go in developing an ideal method for controlling the disease. The book would help in future planning of research for furthering our knowledge about the disease and in devising measures for its control.
