I would like to thank my father (Mr Vishwa Nath Bhattacharya) and my elder brother Abhishek who have constantly supported me through every phase of my life. I would also like to express my gratitude towards my friends Prashant, Biswarup, Sujit, Mugdha, Vikram, Dushyant, Pritam, Priyangi, Radhika, Kushan and Anuradha for putting their faith in my abilities at all times.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to my publisher Rupa Publications, the editorial team (Shreya Chakraborti and Elina Majumdar) and my commissioning editor Shambhu Sahu for giving me the opportunity to write this book.
My obsession with cricket started during my school days when the hopes of a billion Indians rested on the shoulders of Sachin Tendulkar. The maestro inspired countless Indians into taking up the game as a career option, some of whom went on to excel. Post Tendulkar's retirement though, I, like many others, felt that cricket will never be the same in our lives. After all, there was no player now for whom we could chant 'Sachin...Sachin....'
It was at this juncture that we saw the rise of a new legend in the making-Virat Kohli. His consistency across various formats and the sheer force with which he plans his innings is a model to behold in the modern era. He has re-captivated the attention of the 1990s' generation to the TV screen just like the time of Sachin when he used to be on the crease. In a cricket-crazy nation, Virat is no less than a superhero.
