Every nerve of mine was filled with strong determination and perseverance to die along with my two infants... I waited till the sunset... It was turning dark... A tide of hatred and abhorrence on my useless and helpless life swept through me. I picked up the months old second child Bindu into my hands leaving Beena who was fast asleep.
I lifted her with a strong will and stepped forward to the edge of the open well to throw her into it. I believed it was the panacea to all my problems. But...!
One night, while going home on foot, a 'black bear' suddenly attacked me. It was not a bear but a dog. It was three feet long and two and half feet tall. It was black dog looking like a bear.
Its claws were very sharp... It was barking...! I almost died... It barked vigorously and applied pressure with its fore legs on my shoulders. It was paining to me as though it claws are pinning into my skin... If I move a bit, the dog will bite me. It spread its tongue out and was waiting for a chance.
With my body sweating out of fear, I decided my chapter was close that day. There was no question of my going back to India. I would not even see sunrise tomorrow. Finished...!
Sanjay gave me the recruiter's job in South Carolina, US... But, I was not able to follow the American accent... Even if I could understand the accent, I should be able to respond to their queries!... I had no answers to the questions which I could comprehend.
The few english words that I parroted with Sanjay's help already exhausted. Alas! I was caught red handed! Slowly, my self-confidence was melting away.
Yet, I am not defeated. In the year 2011, turnover of my own company, Key Software Solutions Inc., in the US was $5 Million.
On one Sunday noon in mid-summer, Ramachandra Murthy. CEO of HMTV, visited our office. During our conversation. he was referring to an interview their TV channel had with Jyothi Reddy. It was telecast a day or two before.
He was also referring to some intriguing aspects of her life story. I found some inspiring elements in Jyothi Reddy's story. I wondered whether we could bring it out in book form. He readily endorsed my proposal.
What is rampantly seen in the contemporary society is 'fear,' fear to live and fear to die, as well. No one has any fear to lead a lifeless life! Sometimes, I laugh at this and at times I also feel sad. Of course, on some occasions, it is the most imitating phenomenon too.
One day I invited Jyothi Reddy to our office in Hyderabad and explained our proposal. I also introduced senior journalist G Valliswar to Jyothi Reddy so that his writing skills could be put to use in making her autobiography. Along with our editor, Chandrasekhara Reddy, we sat in discussion for about four hours. We went on pouring questions on her to elicit as much data as we could to transcribe her life story in a book form.
Some questions were pinching, others were sour, and still others were downright probing. Yet, Jyothi Reddy was neither perturbed nor provoked. She was very composed and answered all those questions unhesitatingly, candidly and confidently.
