From The Audio CD Artist: Ustad Ahmad Jaan Thirakhwa Catlogue No: CDNF 150233 Format: Audio CD
The rolling thunderous cadences of drumming are the most ancient, universally beloved joy of music known to man. In India alone, has drumming developed into a fine art form, a beautiful language of expressive syllables from the delicate to the explosive. A stupendous mathematical art of juggling kaleidoscopic patterns within the ring of the ‘tala’ cycle. HMV brings this superlative series as a tribute to a unique international art form.
Ahmad Jaan Thirakhwa This maestro was the greatest tabla player of this century. He gave the art of solo tabla playing its place on the contemporary stage. In knowledge he was reputed to be the last word and in command over instrument his fingers virtually danced on the tabla earning him the sobriquet ‘Thirakhwa’ (Thirakh coming from the shimmering thunder-like quality of a Kathak dancer’s feet in action). Thirakhwa Khan Sahab had his training from his father Hussain Baksh and later from the legendary Ustad Munir Khan. The venerated Ustad completely dominated the classical scenario between the nineteen thirties and fifties.
