About the CD

Raag Megh:
Megh means cloud and the Raag Megh is associated with the monsoon (rainy season). It is a pentatonic scale (which it shares with Raag Madhmad Sarang) and the notes are as follows:
Sa Re Ma Pa Ni which means the second and fourth note is natural and the seventh note is flat whereas the third and sixth note are omitted.

Raag Miyan ki Malhar:
Miyan ki malhar is the most popular raag of the rainy season which is believed to have created by Miyan Tansen, the Emperor Akbar’s foremost and favourite court musician. It embodies something of the awesome power of monsoon as well as the romantic longing of Lovers separated by the rains.

The Scale of Miyan ki Malhar is as follow:
Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Ni

The scale shows that both Nishads (komal and shudh) i.e flat and natural seventh note are used in the raag. The second, fourth ansd sixth notes are natural where as third note is flat, the most distinctive movements are the vakra (crooked) descent Ga Ma Re Sa and the ascent ma Pa Ni Dha Ni Sa.
