This is one of last rarest biographical documentary on Padmashri Asgari Begum documented in her last days when she was in her late eighties. The major interview was conducted by Dr. Raghav Menon. The documentary is a unique blend of nostalgic talks of Asgari Begum tracing her childhood to the present and also with the elements of rare Drupad Gayaki personifying her versatility in Ragas, Taals and she belongs to Gwalior or “Gwar Gharana”. Her mother was Nazeer Begum,a court singer of Bijnour Royal family settled in Tikamgarh later. Asgari was baptized and trained by Ustad Zahoor Khan right from her age of 7 or 8 and thereafter Asgari became Rajgayika and performed in Tikamgarh Rajdarbar uptil the age of 35. She was married to a connoisseur of music from Agra Shri Chaman Lal Gupta, though himself not a singer and both showed enormous respects to each other’s religion. She was one of the few Drupad singer’s of her time and depicted very different style which finally gave her space in the world scenario of classical music. The documentary highlights the various lesser known aspects of Asgari’s life depicting the excellence of her creative singing much beyond the boundaries of any single Gharana.
