A community that ha the claim of being the earliest inhabitants of the region, and finds mention in Megasthenes’s book as well as Hiuen Tsang’s travelogue, has now been pushed to the edge and is an ecologically and biologically endangered tribe. They go on hunting expeditions, practice share cropping as well as shifting cultivation, live in mud houses, collect firewood from forest and practice herbal medicine. Though poverty, under development and lack of education has deprived them of benefits of modernization, they celebrate Maghi Parab festival with ecstatic joy and vivacious song and dance.
