Ramkatha of Barlaj is not a simple recitation of the story. It is rendered with music and dance by a group of performers. The steps are measured and in tune with music, provided by beating a small drum with sticks. The performance is held near a temple and around a bonfire. The reciters have added the legend of their ancestral King Bali, and his 100 ‘Yajnas’ to the traditional Ramayan story.
Sanakar geet is the name given to Ram Katha published in a book titled ‘Pahari Lok Geet’, written by Ms. Vimal Kuthiyala. She has added embellishments and elements that locate Ramayan in the region.
