About the CD

Rasiya- A cascade of Love- is an exquisite collection of melodious classical renderings by Kalpana Zokarkar. It comprises soulful songs of popular lyrics set in mesmerizing ragas and talas. The opening tracks of the album, Jab se Shyam sidhare and Chhabi Dikhalaja Banke Savariya are sung in Thumri style, a light classical form of Hindustani Music which became popular in the 19th. The lyrics are romantic and devotional in nature, and reolve around the love for lord Krishna. They are in a dialect of Hindi called Brij Bhasha, spoken, by the people of the region of Braj Bhoomi in North India. The compositions are usually set to keharva of 8 beats, addha tala of 10 beats and deepchandi of 14 beats.

The next track Ab kaahe rokat dagar shyam is in Dadra style, another popular form of semi-classical Indian music. It is sung in the Dadra tala, commonly found in qawwalis, bhajans and folk music throughout India. The last track, Rasiya is a flavour of soulful music that brings out the intensity of love of Radha-Krishna, making this album a wholesome experience of sheer love and devotion.
