13th century South India. Dnyaneshwar’s father returns to his home as a fallen sanyassi, and his family is shunned by the village caste brahmanas. Appealing to the acarya of the sampradaya, a teenage dnyaneshwar, melts the heart of the esteemed spiritual leader and of those who listen to his impassioned understanding of the principles of the Gita. At the age of fifteen Dnyaneshwar writes a commentary in simple Marathi on the ‘Bhagwat Geeta.’ He preaches an ideology emphasizing the welfare of mankind, irrespective of caste, creed, nation and race through the practice of devotional service to Krishna. This philosophy is the foundation of the bhakti cult movement (Warkari) of Maharastra. His writings have been translated into more than 25 languages worldwide.
